We are very pleased to announce that a white rhino calf, a boy (no name yet—the team is still deciding), was born May 4 at Disney’s Animal Kingdom . Disney photographer Gene Duncan stopped by to take some photos, and we’re happy to share them with you. This birth was the fourth for mom, Kendi, a 13-year-old white rhino, who was the first rhino born at the park. A rhino birth is a significant event because at one time the species was nearly extinct.

Sharing a laugh with Minnie Mouse is a great way to end a week and begin a weekend, as contestants in the upcoming 2011 Miss America Pageant discovered during a visit to Magic Kingdom Park today. Miss Alabama 2010 Ashley Davis, of Dothan, Ala.; Miss Virginia 2010 Caitlin Uze, of Arlington, Va.; and Miss Iowa 2010 Pauli Mayfield, of Davenport, Iowa (pictured above) joined the rest of the contestants at Walt Disney World Resort on Friday. Here’s a quick video of some of the fun: During their visit, the contestants recorded segments for the 2011 Miss America Pageant broadcast.

I’m thrilled to share with you the fantastic news that we have a new baby elephant at Disney’s Animal Kingdom . Our 22-year-old elephant Donna gave birth to a 288-pound female calf late last night after a 22-month gestation. Right now, baby and mom are in their backstage home, but in several weeks we expect them to join the rest of the elephant herd on the Kilimanjaro Safaris . The new baby (no name yet!) is the second calf for Donna, who gave birth to a female calf, Nadirah, in 2005.
