A comic book store owner dressed as Spider-Man became a real superhero for the day when he caught an alleged thief trying to steal an X-Men omnibus. Michael Baulderstone, 45, was dressed as Spider-Man as part of a fancy dress open day at comic Centre in Adelaide, Australia, confronted the man when he claims he spotted him taking the £100 book. Security tapes show Mr Baulderstone, addressing the man before stopping him and confiscating the book

Robot 6 is reporting about the publisher Del Ray canceling Marvel Manga series: It looks like the manga publisher Del Rey has canceled the second volumes of its X-Men: Misfits and Wolverine: Prodigal Son. The news broke in a conversation on Twitter , where manga blogger Deb Aoki tweeted a tip that the books had been canceled and Lissa Pattillo noted that they had been taken down from retail sites. Dave Roman, who co-wrote the X-Men books with his wife, Raina Telgemeier, confirmed this in two tweets of his own: Wow! News travels fast! @goraina and I super disappointed since it was written as a 2-part story and it will be unfair to readers. We only found out last week. We still don’t have a lot of the details beyond it being a cost of licensing vs. profits issue. Roman added that he had seen some of the pencils and assumed that the artist, Anzu, was “far along, but still deep into it.” Antony Johnston, the writer of Wolverine: Prodigal Son, confirmed that book’s demise on his blog: Unfortunately, the simple truth is that not enough people bought them. Despite WOLVERINE being praised by readers and selected for two library YA lists, despite MISFITS making it onto the New York Times bestseller list, and not least despite all the efforts of Del Rey themselves and our editors there, there just weren’t enough readers to justify the costs. This is, sadly, more common than you might think in comics. Click here to keep reading. I am getting conflicting reports on who Marvel wants to direct their upcoming film Runaways. Here are a few articles I found talking about both Joss Whedon & Peter Sollett who are in negotiations..So we will see who gets it This article comes to us from MTV: “ The Avengers ” isn’t the only Marvel Studios project that Joss Whedon is currently linked to — based on one report, it appears that the “ Astonishing X-Men ” writer could run away with the big-screen adaptation of “ Runaways .” According to Access Hollywood , Whedon is on a short-list to direct “Runaways,” based on the comic book series created by “ Y: The Last Man ” scribe Brian K. Vaughan . But Whedon isn’t the only leading contender, as Deadline offers the conflicting report that “Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist” director Peter Sollett is in negotiations to direct the superhero project. “Runaways” focuses on an unlikely alliance forged between several youngsters after they learn that their parents are the founding members of a super villain group. Once the discovery is made, the kids — sorceress Nico Minoru, arrogant Chase Stein, alien Karolina Dean, mutant Molly Hayes, raptor-handler Gertie Yorkes and brilliant Alex Wilder — run away together, only to find themselves pursued by their parents and other super-powered individuals. Click here to keep reading. io9 is reporting that Marvel wants Peter Sounds like the Runaways comic might actually get immortalized on the big screen, since Marvel is finally looking at a director. The spawn-of-supervillains epic has the makings of a high-energy super-powered teen action flick, with an angsty John Hughes twist. According to Deadline Marvel wants Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist director, Peter Sollett, to adapt the tortured but amazing Runaways graphic novels. Which sounds like a good fit, since Sollett has experience telling the stories of teenagers in a realistic fashion. Brian K. Vaughn’s Runaways series follows the children of a super-powered crime ring that has total control over L.A. Ashamed of their parents’ evil ways, the kids run away from home before eventually confronting their parents. But even this confrontation doesn’t free the teens from living in the shadows of their parents’ mistakes. Click here to keep reading.
