Prince Of Persia The Sands Of Time Set in medieval Persia, the story of an adventurous prince who teams up with a rival princess to stop an angry ruler from unleashing a sandstorm that could destroy the world. Which is why after the prince was tricked by a dying Vizier to unleash the Sands of Time that turns out to destroy a kingdom and transforms its populace into ferocious demons. In his effort to save his own kingdom and redeem his fatal mistake, it’s up to the prince and the princess to return the sands to the hourglass by using the Dagger of Time, which also gives him a limited control over the flow of time
Several weeks ago we reported newly anointed Disney production president Sean Bailey had a meeting on a “Wizard of Oz” prequel about the wizard before he came to Oz. Now we’re hearing that those meetings went well, so well that the project is on a fast track of sorts. According to word in the development community, Robert Downey Jr. is talking to producers about starring as the wizard. Meanwhile, two directors are said to be considered top candidates to get behind the camera: “American Beauty” director Sam Mendes and “Hairspray” and “Bedtime Stories” director Adam Shankman, who most recently pulled the strings from behind the curtain at the Oscars. The two directors being considered, meanwhile, would seem to mark two directions for the picture, given the more subdued and even bleaker tones that have infused Mendes’ work and the lighter, more whimsical one that has marked Shankman’s. Disney is said to like the premise enough (and with Roth’s “Alice in Wonderland” doing so fantastically well, why not?) that if it all comes together, they could shoot the movie as early as next spring, when Downey has a spot in his production schedule. Walt Disney Pictures has announced that Sam Claflin (“The Pillars of the Earth”) has been cast in “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides,” in the key role of Philip, a youthful missionary. Claflin is joining the cast already comprised of Johnny Depp (Captain Jack Sparrow), Geoffrey Rush (Barbossa), Ian McShane (villainous pirate Blackbeard), Penelope Cruz (Blackbeard’s daughter and Sparrow’s love interest) and Astrid Berges-Frisbey (Syrena the mermaid). “Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides” will film entirely on location in Hawaii, Great Britain and Los Angeles, starting this June. It will then hit theaters on May 20th, 2011.
