Last night, guests at our “Little Mermaid Meet-up” got to see some stories from the Disney Parks Blog come to life, with a rare opportunity to meet Walt Disney Imagineers and Walt Disney animators. They also got to hear some fascinating stories about the attraction that opens June 3 at Disney California Adventure park: The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure . This was the star line-up for our panel discussion: Walt Disney Imagineers Lisa Girolami, Larry Nikolai and Chris Crump from the attraction’s creative team, plus Walt Disney animators Andreas Deja and Mark Henn, who worked on the animated feature film on which the attraction is based.

In a first for acclaimed photographer Annie Leibovitz’s Disney Dream Portrait Series for Disney Parks , one of the actors stepping into a Disney fantasy is actually playing a character he portrays on the big screen . In this two-part layout appearing as part of a special insert in May issues of O – The Oprah Magazine, Real Simple, InStyle and People , Johnny Depp appears as Captain Jack Sparrow joined by his friend, the legendary performer, writer and artist, Patti Smith as the Second Pirate in Command. The caption for this stunning pair of new portraits reads, “Where magic sets sail and adventures become legendary.” The “Pirates of the Caribbean” film franchise has always been rooted in the classic Disney Parks attraction , and these beautiful portraits are a reminder of the power of Disney storytelling and all it can inspire. As I walked past the Norway Pavilion at Epcot last week, I spotted two young sisters who had just enjoyed breakfast with the Disney princesses at the Akershus Royal Banquet Hall . The younger of the two sisters was channeling her inner “Belle” from head to almost toe (she smartly opted for sneakers over heels) in a beautiful gold dress, shimmering tiara, locket and pin. The older sister, positively radiant in a green Tinker Bell outfit, seemed to be in a world of her own – a ballerina dancing to a soundtrack only she could hear.
